Clyde Tidal Walk

  • Riverside Museum, Glasgow Riverside Museum Pier Glasgow, Scotland United Kingdom (map)

The Glasgow Institute of Architects (GIA) is leading ‘Cone on the Cop’: a series of integrated walks, jogs and cycle routes surrounding the COP26 campus. The Clyde Tidal Walk is one of these routes and is focused on a loop around the Clyde spanning from the pedestrian Clyde Tunnel in the West to St Andrew’s suspension bridge in Glasgow Green. Starting at the Riverside Museum, the purpose of the walk is to link a series of historical and sustainable points of architectural interest and to also bring awareness of rising water levels as a result of global warming.

Various viewpoints are integrated into the walk where the rising water levels can be considered in the context of the past, the present and the future. Glasgow City Council will make available historical images from the past while students from Strathclyde University School of Architecture are considering how parts of Glasgow may appear if water levels continue to rise.

A map will help individuals navigate the route however as part of Doors Open Day members of the GIA will join members of the public for a guided walk. The walk will focus on the North bank of the Clyde from the Transport Museum to Glasgow Green.

Tickets are available as part of the Glasgow Doors Open Days Festival, here.
