Countdown to COP #1
GIA held the first event in our countdown to COP series on Thursday 20th February at South Block in Glasgow.
We introduced attendees to the COP process and some of the most recent guidance around how to do architecture in a climate emergency.
We shared some positive examples of what is going on in the industry to reduce carbon emissions, including Scott McAulay on the Anthropocene Architecture School, Euan Lochhead from John Gilbert Architects on Passivhaus and Embodied & Whole Life Carbon with James Robb from WSP. We are interested in collating other good examples of our members' proactive actions on carbon reduction through their work.
We also shared some of the tentative plans for 'Put a Cone on the COP' - collaborative RIAS/GIA events as part of a COP fringe which will focus on the communities around Glasgow. Veronica Low of the RIAS gave us a run-down of several proposed actions to be held in October 2020. Members are invited to get involved in these plans as they develop.
