GIA 150 Book
To celebrate the 150 year anniversary of the institute, the GIA prepared a booklet document its history since its inception in 1868.
What this modest publication hopes to capture is the degree to which GIA has addressed the many changes and challenges that have taken place since its inception on 18 September 1868. Consistent from the outset have been initiatives focusing on architectural education; communications; housing, town planning and the environment; competitions; publications; professional practice; organised events, exhibitions and lectures; and representation on like-minded focus groups. Successive festivals and celebrations – national, international, architectural and otherwise – have seen GIA proudly represent Chapter and city. At a local level, the GIA Design Awards – some of which are illustrated here – have showcased the exemplary work of GIA members since 1979. The creative energy, enthusiasm and ongoing commitment of Council and its Committees remains undiminished after all this time, and whether inspired by the Institute’s founding fathers, or simply by the environment they shaped, GIA looks forward to the next one hundred and fifty years.
