Practice and CPD Committee
The Practice / CPD Committee has the responsibility for the organisation of regular events and learning activities which will assist in supporting the Continuing Professional Development [CPD] obligations of the individual Architects who are members of RIAS in the Glasgow Chapter area.
CPD is the process by which a professional person maintains the quality and relevance of professional services throughout his or her working life.
Members are required to undertake regular Continuing Professional Development (CPD), in order to maintain, improve, and broaden levels of relevant professional knowledge, technical competence, managerial capability and their own knowledge level of current issues affecting practice.
The minimum requirements of members shall be 35 hours per annum with a recommendation that an additional 35 hours per annum is desirable.
In the last year GIA members have benefitted from a number of architect-led guided tours of a completed new buildings of note, presentations on significant future developments and pre-completion visits to the building sites for noteworthy projects.
The membership of the GIA covers a wide spectrum of experience and knowledge, from Students to Retired members, all of which the Practice / CPD Committee attempt to cater for – however, we are aware that a portion of newly graduated architects have struggled to secure significant practical experience of live building sites in recent recessionary times.
The Practice/CPD Committee aim to increase the level of access to critical Practice Information, such as developments in the Legal, Regulatory, Professional, Contract & Technical issues affecting architects.
For the years to come our aim will be to identify opportunities to gain relevant practical experience and provide a ‘catch-up’ service for key issues, while also continuing to organise pertinent presentations and visits to completed projects.
Generally Practice/CPD events are free to our members.
