GIA seeks partner for architectural competition

Glasgow Institute of Architects (GIA) is inviting expressions of interest for a partner to join with it in developing an architectural competition. Through its Architecture People and Places (AP+P) committee GIA will manage the competition as well as providing a £2,000 prize fund.
With practices such as ZM Architecture and Konishi Gaffney enjoying success in recent GIA competitions the institute is looking to widen their offer of support. GIA President Michael Jarvis said ‘It is different approach from GIA this year. Our architectural competitions can offer real benefits to communities and we wanted to extend the offer to as many groups as possible.’
The Architecture People and Places committees stated aim is ‘The promotion of Architectural and Urban Design matters that can provide tangible benefit to the wider public’ and with this in mind GIA are keen to consider all options for the competition. GIA President Michael Jarvis continued ‘We are also looking to our members and the profession to challenge GIA with the architectural issues they think we should be addressing’
With recent GIA Competitions attracting interest from across the UK and Internationally GIAs’ offer is anticipated to attract a wide range of organisations. Michael Dougall, convener of the committee, said ’Our competitions put the community at the heart of the process and It is exciting to offer to work with community groups or organisations in this way. Every project brought to us will be considered’
