Graphical House are an award winning design agency with a highly respected reputation in Glasgow. The project involved extending their existing offices space; two existing ground floor tenement shops were combined to form a large open-plan studio connected by an exposed steel portal trough the existing separating wall. An oiled beech ply wall runs parallel with King Street, along the length of the studio. This acts to conceal the meeting room, ancillary accommodation & even the desk supports.
The result is an L-shaped corner design studio which creates a dynamic, animated elevation onto one of the Merchant city’s busiest junctions. New sight lines are created tangentially between Osborne Street & King street through the studio where windows had previously been removed. This supports pedestrian movement & improves visibility. This street presence reinforces the Merchant City as the Creative Quarter at street level visibility & secures the future presence of GH.
