Tog 2012 Lighthouse
Roots Design Workshop
Category: Small Works
Winner: Design Award
Tog is a new live-build summer school. It is open to anyone with a passion for the craft of building; students, architects, engineers, trade apprentices or members of the local community. The inaugural Tog live-build summer school was hosted on the Isle of Tiree in June 2012. In acknowledgement of the history of the site Tog 2012 built a temporary wooden lighthouse, at the place used by Alan Stevenson to construct his Skerryvore Lighthouse. This acted as a beacon for the project and the ambition of future summer schools.
The 5m-high lighthouse was built over six days by the Tog team and willing participants with the invaluable support of Duncan Roberts, BSW Timber and Spirafix Ground Anchors.
Tog is the Gaelic word meaning build, raise, educate and excite; which is just what the project achieved.
