Maryhill Burgh Halls
Winner: Design Award
The recently refurbished B listed Maryhill Burgh Halls provides contemporary multi-purpose accommodation within the context of the original Burgh Hall and reinstates the Hall as a focal point for the local community.
The varied accommodation consists of a modern public hall, a cafe and heritage exhibition space, eleven offices of varying sizes, both commercial and community recording studios, a nursery for forty pupils and meeting rooms all located around a central courtyard.
The external materials were chosen to be sympathetic with the existing context, but are detailed in a manner to ensure that the new elements are read as contemporary which frame and compliment the original building.
The careful design respects the historical buildings, whilst utilizing their nature to provide integrated accommodation, which achieved and exceeded the clients’ requirements for the building.
