An Cridhe is a new community hall for performance, sports & social events, with flexible meeting & office accommodation for the Isle of Coll community & visitors. At its heart is a large, welcoming ‘living room’ with a fire, casual seating, exhibition & small library. The adjacent bunkhouse with two dorms and a twin room provides hostel facilities.
Due to the rural and relatively remote site, we devised a web-based consultation strategy, which together with drop-in surgeries & public meetings, ensured the design had maximum user input. The preferred design approach was agreed at consultation before the detailed design was developed.
The project has a comprehensive energy strategy incorporating ASHP, MVHR & PVs. Other sustainable design approaches include low energy fittings, local materials & a naturally ventilated hall.
Art & Education
The graphics and interior design incorporates local flora and fauna with Gaelic inscriptions.
